Our Story
River City Church is a community of people being renewed by Jesus, ordinary, weary, hopeful people learning to find rest and strength in Him together.

We gather each week to worship together, hear the Word, receive communion, and encourage each other as we seek to follow Jesus in the everyday realities of work, family, neighborhood, and city life.
We do not pretend to have all the answers. Instead, we come honestly with our burdens and questions, trusting that Christ meets us with grace and makes us new day by day. We want to help people become responsive followers of Jesus, growing deeper in faith and more whole in Him.
Our story stretches back to 1853, when ten believers began meeting in Asa Fletcher’s home in what was then the young frontier town of Minneapolis. Through seasons of pioneering evangelism, explosive growth, perplexing decline, resilient endurance, and spiritual renewal, God has sustained a gospel witness through this community for nearly two centuries. Across homes, halls, sanctuaries, and neighborhoods, one theme has remained constant: a church is not a building, it is a people following Jesus together. The Lord has brought us into a renewed season of life in Northeast Minneapolis, with a clear mission to glorify God by renewing weary lives through a life-giving relationship with Jesus.

Today, Northeast Minneapolis is where we live, worship, grow, and serve, a vibrant and evolving neighborhood where old industry meets new energy. Here we are surrounded by families, students, artists, service workers, and young professionals navigating the complexity of modern life. We want to be a church that helps people find rest in Christ, build deep and meaningful relationships, and live as lights in the places God has placed them. Whether you are exploring faith or seeking a church to call home, we would love to walk with you as together we follow Jesus into the next chapter of this long and beautiful story.
