Praying for the Lost Grows our Worship of Jesus

You’ve heard it said that Pray & Go is a way to send our church into our community. We do this by inviting friends to pray and go with us. Then, we choose a neighborhood to do a prayer walk in. As we pray and go, we leave a door hanger at every home to connect with our neighbors. To date, our church has prayed for over 1,800 different homes across our cities! Praise God!

Eleanore Allen, one of our long-time covenant members, is excited by our church’s goal of praying for 5,000 homes by June of 2022. Eleanore said, “Having that goal is intentional because it keeps all of us accountable to reach it. In my women’s bible study, we are studying the Sermon on the Mount in Matthew 5. One of the things Jesus said that convicts me is in verse 37, “Let what you say be simply ‘Yes’ or ‘No’…” It’s easy to say I will pray for my neighbor, but to be honest, I don’t actually pray. This one-year goal of praying for my neighbors home-by-home has kept my friends and I accountable to say: ‘“Yes, we will follow through on what Jesus commands us to do. We will pray that our neighbors would follow Jesus!”’

Eleanore’s challenge reminds all of us that this is why we pray for our unbelieving neighbors. It’s because personal evangelism is something Jesus delights in sharing with us, his followers, so that we may worship him more as we share our reason for worship with others. River City Church, be encouraged that God is using our prayers to grow our hearts for the lost and to renew weary lives one prayer and one conversation at a time.
